Excavator Power Armor is a mining exoskeleton developed by Garrahan Mining Co. In Fallout 76, the suit is known for its unique ability to quadruple the player’s mineral harvest: Extract one ore, and gain four. Stat-wise, EXC-17 offers 240 Damage and Energy Resistance, as well as 366 Radiation Resistance. (Compared to other PAs, it has the lowest DR and ER.) Although the Excavator Power Armor is highly favored by all Fallout 76 factions, it remains solely as a prototype within the game due to its origin as a pre-Great War creation by a long-forgotten company. Players must procure the plans and craft the armor themselves to obtain it.

With this guide, Fallout 76 players can acquire a complete set of Excavator blueprints, enabling them to craft it at their CAMP. Furthermore, they'll discover the best Perk Cards to pair with it and the most efficient Modifications to install on it.

The Union Power Armor came with the Pitt update in Fallout 76’s Season 10; this guide explains how to get it in the latest season.

Updated on April 30, 2024, by Mohsen Baqery: The Excavator Power Armor has remained a favorite among early-game players thanks to its remarkable mining capabilities. Many beginners aim to unlock this suit quickly to expedite their material farming and enhance their construction endeavors. Despite this, with the recent surge in new players joining the game, there's been a noticeable increase in the popularity of the EXC-17. Therefore, this guide has been updated with fresh insights, including recommendations for the best Perk Cards and Mods to install on the Excavator, among other valuable information.

To get the Excavator Power Armor, players will need to steal its plans from the Garrahan Mining Corporation. This can be done through the Miner Miracles quest or directly through interacting with the Project Manager Terminal at the corporation’s headquarters. Once the blueprints are acquired, they'll be able to craft the Excavator at a Power Armor Station.

There’s a quest poster at Garrahan Mining’s entrance which players can read to get the Miner Miracles side quest. This short mission requires the player to search the headquarters and rewards them with the Excavator’s plans.

It’s possible to skip the Miner Miracles quest and get the Excavator blueprints directly. For that, players must kill the mobs at the Garrahan Mining Corporation, make their way into the mine through the tunnel in the basement, and interact with the Project Manager Terminal next to the office.

To craft the Excavator Power Armor, Fallout 76 players should place an empty chassis on a Power Armor Station and add all six Excavator parts. The entire set requires 36 Black Titanium, 6 Nuclear Materials, 12 Glasses, 26 Rubber, 60 Screws, 60 Springs, 38 Oils, and 30 Gears.

Players will be able to farm the materials that are needed for the Excavator Power Armor by killing Mole Miner Dredgers. They drop all the necessary ingredients, such as Black Titanium.

Ideal Perk Cards for the Excavator are Full Charge, Portable Power, Strong Back, and Bullet Shield. The goal of pairing the suit with these cards is to address its weaknesses, which are Fusion Core consumption, Carry Weight limit, and low Damage Resistance. Here’s how each perk affects the EXC-17’s functionality:

While the Excavator mods spawn at random locations in Appalachia, visiting Responder Vendors is the best way to get them. Vendor bot Responder at Whitespring Resort and Vendor bot Chad at the amusement park sell all the Excavator modifications for a fair price.

For the Excavator Power Armor, the most effective Mods are Calibrated Shocks and Cooling Vent. As players primarily use this armor for mining, these modifications can prolong their expeditions by maximizing Carry Weight and minimizing Fusion Core consumption.
